Game forcing hand and says nothing about hearts but does deny a 5+ spade suit
Unlike the weak response the next bid is to show long suit by opener not necessarily a 4 card major
Only 2 types of hands do a jump shift 2♠ and 3lvl bids which have specific meanings
Only in first and second seat opening
1♠ - 5+ Spades (16+ HCP)
1NT - 17-19 HCP Balanced when opening NT is 11-13, 18-19 when NT is 15-17. Because it is game force could also show 22-24 points as well and avoid the jump to 2NT
- Denies 5 spades
2♣ - 5+ Clubs (16+ HCP)
2♦ - 5+ Diamonds (16+ HCP)
2♥ - 5+ Hearts (16+ HCP)
2♠ - 4441 Distribution with unknown singleton
- 2NT asks for the singleton
- Once singleton is know responder can transfer at the 3lvl excluding a bid of 3NT which is a sign-off. 3S bid is transfer to the lowest non singleton suit
- Once transfer typical control bidding is available and Kickback RKC is available
- For anything above 3NT use 4♣/4♦ RKC may prevent some transfers but is more powerful
2NT - 20-21 HCP
3♣/♦/♥/♠- self sufficient suit and slam interest
- Must bid A, K, singleton or void with non-min and support
- One level raise shows min values
- 3NT shows min values and void in bid suit
3NT - 24-27 HCP
After showing suit as responder if partner bids another suit at the 2 lvl should use waiting 2NT for a lot of hands and only go past 2NT with special distribution. This lets partner show you another suit
(example 1c-1h-2d-2h)
2♠ - 4 or more spades shorter than diamonds in the example, denies 3 hearts
2NT - Waiting bunch of different distributions
3♣ - 5+ diamonds and 4 clubs, denies 3 hearts
3♦- 7+ diamonds or really good 6, denies 3 hearts
if it was 1c-1h-2c-2s would bid 2NT instead of showing 4 diamonds or 4 hearts etc.
